About City

Paris is widely regarded as the most romantic city in the world and is home to many world-famous landmarks often featured in travel magazines, films, and works of art. As the capital of France, Paris has a population of over two million and is one of the most-visited cities in Europe. It earned the nickname "City of Light" for two key reasons. First, in the 1860s, Paris became one of the first European cities to use gas street lamps, quite literally lighting up the city. Secondly, during the 18th century, Paris played a central role in the Age of Enlightenment, making it a beacon of intellectual and cultural development. Fashion has long been a key element of Parisian culture, with roots tracing back to the 1670s and the establishment of the Paris fashion press. Many credit France’s iconic style to King Louis XIV, also known as the Sun King. While Paris is often seen as the heart of French culture—renowned for its fashion, cuisine, art, and architecture—life outside the capital is distinctly different and varies by region. Interestingly, France doesn't just have culture—the word "culture" itself is French.
