Oral Health and Dentistry

Oral health is a main indicator of overall health, quality of life and well-being. It encompasses a range of diseases and conditions that include dental caries, periodontal disease, oro-dental trauma, tooth loss, noma, oral cancer, and birth defects such as palate and cleft lip.

Dentistry, is a branch of medicine deals with teeth, mouth and gums, it is also known as oral medicine and dental medicine. It consists of the study, diagnosis, treatment, management, and prevention of diseases, conditions of the mouth, and disorders, most commonly focused on dentition as well as the oral mucosa. Dentistry may also encompass other aspects of the craniofacial complex including the temporomandibular joint. The practitioner is called a dentist.
